EXECUTIVE SUMMARY –
France’s oil major TotalEnergies discovered new hydrocarbon reserves offshore in the Republic of Congo as part of its expansion of the Moho field, with findings estimated at nearly 100 million barrels of recoverable resources. The discovery, supported by partners including QatarEnergy and Congo’s national oil company, is expected to boost production and leverage existing infrastructure for cost-effective development.

- TotalEnergies discovered hydrocarbons in the Republic of Congo as part of its Moho offshore field expansion.
- The discovery includes a 160-meter hydrocarbon column and over 100 million barrels of recoverable resources from recent finds.
- QatarEnergy, holding a 15% stake in TEPC, also acknowledged the discovery and expressed intent to further develop resources with partners.
- Ownership structures of the Moho field involve TotalEnergies, QatarEnergy, Trident Energy, and the Congolese national oil company.
The drilling operations identified a 160-meter column of hydrocarbons.
TotalEnergies has indicated that the combined findings from the Moho G and Moho H discoveries represent an excess of 100 million barrels of recoverable resources, as seen on Reuters.
Stakes for QatarEnergy
QatarEnergy, a shareholder in TotalEnergies E&P Congo (TEPC), also announced the hydrocarbon discovery.

The Middle Eastern company, via a statement, noted that it has a 15% shareholding position in TotalEnergies E&P Congo (TEPC), which is the operator in the Moho license.
This was highlighted in a report last year, which showed that the energy firm in its continental region, and its partners received an exploration license for the Republic of Congo’s Nzombo offshore block.
Under the Production Sharing Contract agreed with the Congolese government, QatarEnergy will own 35%, TotalEnergies (operator) 50%, and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo 15%.
However, as seen in the Gulf Times, TEPC currently maintains a 63.5% equity interest in the license, in partnership with Trident Energy (21.5%) and Société Nationale des Pétroles du Congo (15%).
Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, Eng. Saad bin Sherida Al Kaabi stated, “We are pleased to further strengthen our expanding international portfolio with this promising new discovery in the Republic of Congo.
We look forward to working with our strategic partner, TotalEnergies, and with the Congolese Government to develop these resources.”
Moho deep offshore field
Situated approximately 80 kilometers (50 miles) from the coast of Pointe Noire, the Moho deep offshore field currently yields a daily output of roughly 90,000 barrels of oil equivalent, managed by TotalEnergies via two floating production units.
Plans are underway to integrate the newly identified Moho F and Moho G discoveries into the company’s existing infrastructure at the Moho site.
“This new discovery on the Moho license benefits from its proximity to existing production infrastructure, allowing a short-cycle, cost-effective tie-back development,” Nicola Mavilla, Senior Vice-President Exploration, said in a statement.
